Casting is complete for the Atlantic Theater Company’s previously announced world premiere of Fernanda Coppel’s Chimichangas and Zoloft. Directed by Jaime Castañeda, performances begin May 23 at off-Broadway’s Atlantic Stage 2, with an opening night set for June 3. The limited engagement runs through June 24.
The cast will feature Zabryna Guevara (Pariah), Alfredo Narciso (Person of Interest, The Motherf**ker with the Hat), Teddy Cañez (The Wire), Xochitl Romero (The Foodie Girls) and newcomer Carmen Zilles. Suffering from a profound sense of disappointment after her 40th birthday, Sonia (Guevara) flees her family and goes on a binge of prescription Zoloft and greasy chimichangas. Sonia’s rebellious daughter Jackie (Zilles) and her best friend Penelope (Romero) hatch a plan to lure Sonia back home, while their fathers (Cañez, Narciso) struggle with a secret association of their own. Chimichangas and Zoloft examines the search for happiness and the mysteries of sexuality through the eyes of two teenagers.
Chimichangas and Zoloft will feature scenic design by Lauren Helpern, costume design by Jessica Wegener Shay, lighting design by Grant W.S. Yeager and sound design by Broken Chord.
